My career as a tattooer began here in Spokane, year 2000, at Walt Dailey's landmark shop Tiger Tattoo, the same place where I'd been getting my work since the early 90's. Not only was I fortunate to apprentice under the world-renowned Walt Dailey at an already established shop, but I also became close with the other artists working there at the time: Caleb Frey, Duffy Moon, Patrick Ethington, and Tom Morris. It was from that crew, and the piercers Crystal and Kim, I learned the ins and outs of a particularly unique business.
In 2001 Walt opened his second outfit, Tiger North, in the historic Garland district. Alongside fellow apprentice Chris Spriggs and veteran tattooer Caleb Frey, I helped establish what I like to think of as one of Spokane's best shops.
However, when Patrick, with whom I'd remained tight since 2000, offered me joint interest in Shamrock Tattoo in the spring of '07, I couldn't refuse; I've always admired him as an artist and was drawn to his grass-roots approach to shop ownership. I've been nothing but fortunate; I owe many thanks to all those who have supported me along the way-clients, co-workers, friends, and especially Jen, my wife. I'm particularly grateful, though, to Walt for giving me a shot way back when and to Patrick for allowing me this opportunity here at Shamrock Tattoo. Come on by; we'd love to see you.
